A leading energy expert and finance executive, Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani provides strategic consulting and advisory services for corporate clients in the energy, power, oil and gas and energy infrastructure space. She also sits on the advisory board of global Private Equity firm, Stonechair Capital as it launches its $300 million #EnergyAfrica fund to invest in energy projects in Sub-Sahara Africa. Prior to this, from 2014 – 2019 she was head of energy and natural resources for FBNQuest Merchant Bank, investment and merchant banking arm of Nigeria’s oldest financial services group, FBN Holdings PLC, helping energy corporates raise and structure debt and equity capital.
From 2017-19 she was a member of the economic advisory group in the Office of the Vice President, working closely with the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, and the VP’s office on a range of national development policy issues. Prior to FBNQuest Merchant Bank, she was head of the oil and gas energy research team at pan-African Ecobank Group, covering the market across 33 African countries. In her earlier career, Rolake was the lead country risk analyst for West Africa at Eurasia Group and was also a Senior Africa Analyst in the global risk analysis team Control Risks Group, advising multinationals in the energy and natural resource sector on business, political and investment risks in Africa.
Rolake was recognized in the United Nations’ MIPAD Top 100 (Most Influential People of African Descent) Under 40, in the Business & Entrepreneurship Class of 2018, and was listed in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Choiseul Institute’s (France) top 200 Under-40 Young Economic Leaders in Africa. In 2015, she received the Best Africa Oil and Gas Analyst award from Energy Corporate Africa (US) and was listed in pan-African law firm, Centurion LLP’s, one to watch in African energy in 2016. A highly sought-after thought leader on African and global energy, she has also been a regular reviewer of global newspaper headlines on BBC World News TV since 2012, and provides business and economic analysis to leading local and international media platforms – radio, TV and print.
She has a bachelors and Masters degrees from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a joint MBA degree from the London School of Economics, HEC School of Management Paris and New York’s Stern School of Business – TRIUM.
